Saquon Barkley is a special player
Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wide receiver Chris Godwin was a recent guest of “10 Questions with Kyle Brandt,” a podcast by The Ringer and he had some high praise for New York Giants’ running back Saquon Barkley.
“He has a great mix of everything you want in a running back. He can run with power, he has the speed to run away from guys, he’s elusive. Obviously, he jumps over guys, which is what everyone kind of knows him for. But he can also catch the ball out of the backfield. He has really great hands. Like, that was something I noticed early on at Penn State,” Godwin said.
“Above all that he’s a great dude. He carries himself the right way, he’s a good role model for kids, and he works his butt off. So I think you pair all of those things together and you’ve got a pretty damn good running back.”
Of course Godwin hated to see Barkley go down with a torn ACL this past season.
“I absolutely hate when guys get hurt, especially when it’s a significant injury that’s going to have them out for a year. We put so much into this game. This is our livelihood and a lot of us have been playing for 15-20 years. So we put so much into it, so much training just to get to the season and to be able to play the entire year,” Godwin said.
“It devastates guys. That’s why you see guys crying. Not only is it the pain, but it’s the realization that I can’t do what I do for a year. That really bugs me.”
Godwin in his own right is a heck of an athlete, which is why the Bucs did whatever it took to make sure he stuck around and re-signed him to a one-year deal as they look to repeat at Super Bowl Champions.
When it comes to Barkley he is certainly a great person as well as a great player. Hopefully he can stay healthy and help the Giants get back to the playoffs.
