Trading down and taking an edge rusher makes sense
Former NFL quarterback and current NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms has released his final mock draft ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft, which kicks off in two days.
As you can see below, Simms has the New York Giants trading down from 11 to 15 with the New England Patriots.
With the Patriots moving up, Simms has them taking Alabama wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and the Giants going with Penn State edge rusher Jayson Oweh at 15.
I love the idea of the Giants trading down and getting an edge rusher while also acquiring another draft pick of two.
Even though Oweh didn’t get a lot of sacks in college, Simms brought up the point that it’s hard for guys to rack up sacks because of the way college offenses are with the fact that they don’t have their quarterbacks take five or seven step drops and then read the field. There are a lot of run-pass options and bubble screens.
