Giants end up with a receiver in the first round
With the New York Giants trading down from 11 to 20 with the Chicago Bears and landing bunch of draft picks, which includes a 2022 1st round pick, they have finally made their pick.
The Giants ended up selecting Florida wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Toney hauled in 70 receptions for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Gators in 2020.
I really thought the Giants would take an edge rusher like Michigan’s Kwity Paye or Azeez Ojulari from Georgia after trading down, so this is certainly a surprise. Now I would be utterly shocked if New York doesn’t draft an edge rusher in the second round because that is still their biggest need.
I would think that Gettleman and company valued Toney more than any other player still on the board after making this pick.
It will be interesting to see what kind of role the Giants carve out for Toney after taking him in the first round? Will he take over as their second wide receiver alongside Kenny Golladay? We’ll have to wait and see.
