Amazon Prime paying the NFL some big time money
After the NFL and Amazon made a deal for their streaming service Prime to start exclusively carrying Thursday night football games for the 2023 season. But now things have changed.
The NFL announced on Monday that Amazon Prime will start showing Thursday night games in 2022 exclusively on their platform.
Of course Amazing Prime has been showing Thursday games for some time now, but not on an exclusive basis. They stream the games while they’re also shown on the NFL Network as well as FOX.
Now, if your local team is on Thursday night starting 2022 and you don’t have Prime, you will still be able to watch the game on local television. So no need to worry about not getting your local team’s games.
The deal between Amazon and the NFL will run for a total of 11 years and they will broadcast 15 regular season games and one preseason game.
“We look forward to bringing Thursday Night Football exclusively to Prime members in 2022, a year earlier than previously announced,” said Marie Donoghue, vice president of global sports video at Amazon, in a statement, via CNBC. “This expedited deal is an immediate differentiator for us as a service, as it gives Prime members exclusive access to the most popular sport in the United States.”
