It would be a mistake to trade for Aaron Rodgers
New York Giants’ general manager Dave Gettleman recently stated that they explore everything, which includes trading for the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.
FS1 radio/TV host Colin Cowherd brought up the Giants as a possible landing spot for Rodgers on his show “The Herd” this week
“Next year the New York Giants have two firsts, two thirds and two fourths,” said Cowherd. “They could give up a ton to Green Bay. You could give Green Bay a first, a second, a third, a fourth just next year….You could have four great picks next year from them. You could draft another quarterback if you wanted to.
“Also I think Aaron would be willing to listen. It’s a weaker division. They have tremendous weapons. They have an excellent better than Green Bay defense,” said Colin.
Colin also brought up the point that general manager Dave Gettleman is fighting to keep his job, which might be why he would be willing to add Rodgers. But knowing how the Giants operate, I would imagine that owners Steve Tisch and John Mara would have to sign off on the move.
I know I might sound crazy, but trading for a 37 year-old quarterback doesn’t make sense to me. He’s not going to play until 45 like Tom Brady. Brady isn’t the norm, he’s special. It’s simply not worth it to give up so much for a 2-3 year rental of a quarterback.
If Daniel Jones doesn’t work out for the Giants, they would be better off drafting another quarterback in 2022.
