Will teams not take of players who get injured away from their facilities?
With Denver Broncos’ offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James suffering a torn Achilles while working out on his own, the NFL sent a memo out to every team.
As you can see below, the memo stats that teams are not “obligated to provide salary continuation during the year in which the injury was sustained” if it is away from the team facility.
With COVID-19 vaccines being available to all adults in the United States, NFL players don’t have an excuse to not workout at their respective team’s facility. The funny thing is that this rule has been in place since 1977, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
This memo is clearly a way for the league threaten the players and the NFLPA. But I can’t imagine a team like the New York Giants being unwilling to pay a player if he gets injured while away from their team facility.
