Azeez Ojulari can help the Giants get back to the playoffs
If the New York Giants need one of their 2021 NFL Draft picks to play great right away, it has to be edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.
Hopefully Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus mentioning Ojulari as a great for the Giants means that he will be able to come in and have a double digit sack season as a rookie.
Here’s what Renner wrote:
The Giants are among the few teams that still have a true 3-4 outside linebacker role in their defense. Last year, Kyler Fackrell dropped into coverage over eight snaps a game. Ojulari is more than athletic enough to do that at 249 pounds while also being a weapon off the edge as a rusher. His 91.5 pass-rushing grade was the best in this draft class.
Giants’ head coach Joe Judge recently stated in a radio interview that the defense that Ojulari was a part of at Georgia is a “cousin defense” to what the Giants run. This is why they expect him to transition well to the NFL. This might be also why Renner says he’s a great fit.
The last great pass rusher that the Giants drafted was Jason Pierre-Paul back in 2010. It’s been way too long since they’ve had a difference maker that makes things difficult for opposing offenses. Hopefully Ojulari is that guy.
