Azeez Ojulari has plenty of pressure to perform
Even though there were reports of issues with Azeez Ojulari’s knee, the NY Giants weren’t scared to take him and may end up with quite the player for where they selected him.
Luke Easterling of Draft Wire says that Ojulari was the biggest steal of the draft for the Giants.
Even though Ojulari slid all the way to pick 50, Giants’ general manager Dave Gettleman wasn’t concerned and knew what kind of player he’s getting.
“You have to have confidence in your ability to evaluate players,” Gettleman said. “So you just turn around and people are missing it for whatever reason and it didn’t scare us, that’s for darn sure. We’re thrilled to get him. You know, it’s kind of the same thing when people cut a player. The instinct is to say what’s wrong. My attitude is maybe they made a mistake. So it’s one of those deals where the fact that Azeez was dropping did not impact us at all in terms of our opinion of his playing ability and what he could do for us.”
The fact of the matter is that teams and/or scouts will make things up about players in order to cause them to slide. I don’t know why this happens, but this could be the case with Ojulari.
I understand that Ojulari has arthritis in his knee after suffering a torn ACL in high school, but he was perfectly healthy in college and never missed a game. So I wouldn’t be worried.
