Kelvin Benjamin trying to revive his career
In somewhat of a surprise move, the New York Giants signed free agent wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin on Sunday after he took part in their rookie minicamp over the weekend.
What’s really interesting is that Benjamin tried out as a tight end and not as a wide receiver, the position which he played previously with the Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. But on the Giants’ roster he’s listed as a wide receiver.
What the Giants signing Benjamin means is that he will have a chance to make their 53-man roster this coming summer, but that will be a tall task for him after not playing in the NFL since 2018.
My guess is that New York will have Benjamin work as a receiver and tight end in camp, but they’re stacked at both positions. This could be general manager Dave Gettleman’s way of trying to help a player he once used a first round pick on. Because if he plays well in the preseason and the Giants don’t keep him, I’m sure another team will sign him.
