Giants could have done better in 2018
Dane Brugler of The Athletic decided to do a review of the 2018 NFL Draft three years later and he has the New York Giants’ best pick being running back Saquon Barkley and the worst being quarterback Kyle Lauletta after New York wasted a fourth round pick on him.
Here’s what the Giants’ 2018 draft class looked like for reference:
1st round – RB Saquon Barkley
2nd round – OG Will Hernandez
3rd round – LB Lorenzo Carter
3rd Round – DL B.J. Hill
4th round – QB Kyle Lauletta
5th round – DL R.J. McIntosh
“After recording four sacks as a rookie, Carter became a full-time starting edge rusher in 2019, posting 45 tackles, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble and five passes defended,” Brugler wrote. “He appeared to take another step in his development in year three, but a torn Achilles ended his 2020 season after only five games. Carter is expected back at full health.”
Brugler also ranked the Giants’ draft at number 17, which is in the middle. I honestly think he’s being kind of generous.
Looking back at that draft class, Barkley has been great when he’s healthy, Will Hernandez hasn’t lived up to his draft spot and the same can be said about Lorenzo Carter. B.J. Hill has been a good player, but hasn’t turned into a star.
