Daniel Jones has a lot of pressure on him
The upcoming NFL season is going to be huge for the New York Giants because they have a chance to be good enough to win the NFC East or play so poorly that they end up in last place in their division because of all of the questions that surround them.
Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has selected a “red flag” for every NFL team heading into the upcoming season. For the Giants, he chose quarterback Daniel Jones.
The one big question is whether Daniel Jones can bounce back from last year’s disappointing campaign.
Jones showed promise as a rookie, throwing for 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. However, he was not good in 2020, passing for just 2,943 yards with 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while posting a passer rating of 80.4
Fumbles have been a constant issue for Jones, too, as he’s dropped the ball a whopping 29 times in two seasons. He has gone 8-18 as a starter.
While a better supporting cast should help Jones improve, he’s going to have to if the Giants have any hope of reaching the playoffs. Bad quarterback play can doom even the most promising of teams.
Knox could have gone in many different directions here. For example, he could have chosen left tackle Andrew Thomas, but Jones is certainly the biggest red flag for the Giants. They will go as far as he takes them.
The first thing that the Giants need Jones to do is simply protect the football. He has to stop fumbling the ball and throwing interceptions. I will say that during the second half of last season he did a great job with cutting down on turnovers. But that needs to continue into the upcoming season.
