Eli Manning on the cover of Madden would be cool
EA Sports just released a really cool teaser video for the upcoming Madden 22 cover athlete reveal.
In the video is former NFL running back and Madden 11 cover athlete Peyton Hillis along with two goats The goats likely symbolize that Madden will have two athletes on the cover this year and they will likely be players that are considered the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T.).
My thinking is that one will likely be Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady after yet another Super Bowl. But Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports brought up an interesting idea of maybe former New York Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning and his brother Peyton.
This one’s admittedly a bit out there from our top two options but it does make sense when you think about it. In the past, EA Sports has given the Madden NFL cover to a non-active player (Barry Sanders in 2013 for Madden NFL 25), so they wouldn’t be breaking entirely new ground by making Peyton and Eli Manning the co-cover athletes. Despite being one of the greatest quarterbacks of his era, Peyton has never been on the cover of Madden NFL. If they were ever going to right that wrong, the year when the quarterback is set to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame would be a solid time to do it. Also, adding in Eli would be a good gesture to the former New York Giants legend and would tie in the elder and baby goat teaser quite nicely.
Peyton would certainly make sense. But people would be up in arms if Eli was on the cover because many don’t consider him as being one of the greatest of all time, despite his two Super Bowl wins over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
Another idea is maybe Brady and Peyton Manning. The good news is that we don’t have to wait much longer to find out who will be on the cover. It will be announced tomorrow, June 17th.
