Xavier McKinney not a fan of the Cowboys
New York Giants’ second-year safety Xavier McKinney recently stated that he now holds a grudge against the Philadelphia Eagles for purposely losing their week 17 game against the Washington Football Team last season that forced the Giants to not win the NFC East and miss the playoffs.
During an appearance on the All Things Covered podcast, McKinney also admitted that he takes it personal that the Dallas Cowboys didn’t draft him.
“I think everything came full circle for me,” McKinney said.“That was the team (Cowboys) that was supposed to come get me. The team talked to me a lot, and they liked me when I was interviewing and all that stuff. … Having that pick against the Cowboys was great because going into that game, I knew what we needed to do to have a chance to even make the playoffs. I knew it was a big game going in.
“For me, I take it personal every time I play the Cowboys for the rest of my career. That’s just how I feel about that situation.”
I’m assuming that McKinney thought the Cowboys would use their first round pick on him, since the Giants selected him with the fourth overall pick in the second round. There was no way he would slide down to Dallas in round two. Unless he was hoping they would trade up for him.
The Cowboys used their first round pick, 17th overall, on wide receiver Ceedee Lamb. With McKinney falling into the second round, taking him where Dallas took Lamb likely would have been a reach.
McKinney will have his next crack at the Cowboys in week five on October 10th of this year.
