Joe Judge is a better coach than people realize
The New York Giants ended up finishing last season with a 6-10 record, but got better as the season went on and it was clear to anyone who followed Big Blue that head coach Joe Judge has them headed in the right direction.
Despite the fact that the Giants seem to be in good hands, Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports pretty much trashed Judge in his NFL head coach rankings.
26. Joe Judge (Giants)
Season: 2nd with Giants and as HC
Career record: 6-10 (.375)
Playoff record: N/A
Sometimes his no-nonsense tough-guy act borders on silliness, like when he condemned the Eagles for refusing to get his own team into the playoffs. But the disciplinary spunk had the G-Men flashing surprise confidence throughout 2020. The question is whether he’s got what it takes to shepherd offensive growth, either with Daniel Jones at QB or someone else.
Judge’s “tough guy no nonsense act” has worked perfectly fine because his players love playing for him. It sounds like to me that Benjamin just isn’t a fan of him.
Somehow Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy is ranked higher than Judge despite the fact that his roster has more talent and underachieved last season. You can of course argue that McCarthy didn’t have it easy with Dak Prescott going down, but Andy Dalton is more than capable of winning football games.
