Eli Apple was a head case for the Giants
The New York Giants have a had some really bad draft picks over the past several years just like many NFL teams.
Michael Renner of Pro Football Focus has posted an article where he selected each NFL team’s worst draft pick since 2006. For the Giants, he chose cornerback Eli Apple.
NEW YORK GIANTS: CB ELI APPLE, OHIO STATE (NO. 10 OVERALL IN 2016)
Apple lasted only two and a half years in the Big Apple before he was dealt midseason to New Orleans for a fourth- and seventh-round pick. His tenure with the Giants was marred by reported maturity issues. He allowed a passer rating over 100 in both seasons as a starter.
What’s really depressing for the Giants and their fans is that they could have had offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil who fell to 13 in the 2016 draft.
When it comes to Apple, he was high maintenance from the start and his mom of all people spoke out in defense of him way too much instead of letting him defend himself as an NFL player and a grown man.
Former Giants safety Landon Collins at one point called Apple a “cancer.” He was also caught texting on the sideline, which also didn’t help him with his teammates.
Apple is still only 25 years-old and somehow keeps getting signed by teams. He was with the New Orleans Saints (2018-19), Carolina Panthers in 2021 and now was signed by the Cincinnati Bengal this offseason. I guess there will always be a team that believes they can help get the most out of a player.
