Maybe Eli Manning can help Daniel Jones break out in 2021
One thing that New York Giants’ starting quarterback Daniel Jones has going for him are his ties to Eli Manning.
Whether it’s the fact that both and Manning and Jones were coached by David Cutcliffe in college, the fact that Manning was always down at Duke University in the offseason, to the fact that Manning’s final NFL season was during Jones’ rookie season.
During an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio last week, Jones confirmed that Manning is still mentoring him.
SiriusXM: “How about having Eli around now? I mean, I was talking to Archie (Manning) about you and going to the camps and knowing the Mannings and everything else. I just think having a guy like Eli … having a guy that knows what you do. It’s gotta be a big plus to have him around.”
Jones: “Yeah it is. He’s done it. He’s played the position in New York. I think that’s part of it and obviously played at a high level and did everything right on and off the field. So he’s a great guy to look to and someone who can help.”
SiriusXM: “I’m asking, is he a friend of yours? Because I could see the two of you being good friends.”
Jones: “Yeah, I think we’re friends and we certainly have stayed in touch. It was a little different this year with COVID. He wasn’t around as much. But yeah, no, we’re friends and I’ve certainly learned a lot from him and he’s helped me a ton.”
Now that Manning has a business operations and fan engagement role with the Giants, I’m sure he’ll be around Jones move this coming season.
