NY Giants adding to their roster
The New York Giants have made a pair of signings this weekend.
First and foremost, Big Blue added linebacker Todd Davis who recorded an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 60.6 in 2020 as well as a run defense grade of 70.2.
The 29 year-old Davis started his career with the New Orleans Saints in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State. He then went on to the play for the Denver Broncos from 2014-2019 and played for the Minnesota Vikings last season. He recorded an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 60.6 in 2020.
Davis has also made a total of 69 starts in 96 games so far during his career.
The Giants also announced the signing of free agent wide receiver Damion Willis. The 24 year-old went undrafted out of Troy University in 2019 and last played in an NFL game in 2019 for the Cincinnati Bengals. He spent the 2020 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ and Cleveland Browns’ practice squads.
Last and not least Big Blue also announced the signing of former Dallas Cowboys’ offensive lineman Joe Looney.
The 30 year-old Looney was a fourth round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2012 out of Wake Forest University. He played for the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and of course the Cowboys from 2016-20.
I think Looney will have a legit chance at winning a starting job at either center or guard. I know Nicks Gates and Shane Lemieux have shown promise, but anything can happen in training camp and the preseason.
One thing is certain right now and that is that the Giants are stronger upfront right now. He did record a poor Pro Football Focus grade of only 50.7 last season and 58.0 the year before. Hopefully a chance in scenery will help. At worse he will give New York some needed depth.
