There’s Still Time to Get a Stimulus Check; Here’s How to Do It

NEW YORK’S STATEN ISLAND — While the deadlines for the first two Economic Impact Payments have passed, the third stimulus check, worth up to $1,400 per person, is still available if you haven’t already gotten it.

According to CNBC.com, most qualified beneficiaries of the payments permitted by the American Rescue Plan in March 2021 had already received stimulus payments via direct deposit or mailed cheques as of January 2022.

If you haven’t gotten a payment, your only option is to file a 2021 tax return due on April 18.

The 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit credit issued the third stimulus check based on your income and the number of dependents stated on your 2020 or 2019 tax return. As a result, you may owe money if you qualified for dependents in 2021. You may also be entitled to a stimulus credit if you did not file a return in 2019 or 2020.

How Do I Get Stimulus Money?

If you believe you are owed a third government payment but did not get it, you must fill out the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit worksheet and submit it with your 2021 tax return. The worksheet explains how to calculate the amount of money you are eligible to receive.

Most families received $1,400 per person from the third stimulus check, including all dependents declared on their tax return. A single person with no dependents would typically earn $1,400, while a family of four (married couple with two dependents) would receive $5,600.

Suppose you never received the third stimulus check. In that case, you can use the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) “Get My Payment” service, which is only available on IRS.gov and is available in English and Spanish. It updates once a day, generally throughout the night.

Tax Credit for Children

President Joe Biden signed the Child Tax Credit into law as part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which aims to assist the US recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Between July 2021 and December 2021, over 36 million eligible American families got financial assistance through the Child Tax Credit, which was paid out monthly. Families might get up to $300 for each child under six and up to $250 for children from six to seventeen.

There have been various petitions calling for more stimulus checks like those in 2020, but Congress has stated that it has no plans to do so, and President Joe Biden’s proposal to extend the Child Tax Credit through 2022 failed to pass the Senate.
