More Than a Hundred Offenders Were Apprehended While Attempting to Enter Atlanta International Airport

ATLANTA, GA — More than 100 wanted offenders have attempted to enter or exit the United States through the Atlanta airport so far this year.

Officials reported that between January 1 and May 31, Customs and Border Protection personnel at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) apprehended 116 wanted criminals attempting to enter or depart the United States on an international aircraft.

“CBP officers in Atlanta collaborate with other law enforcement agencies across the country and internationally to ensure criminals cannot freely walk the streets…[and] to fulfil our core mission as law enforcement officials — to protect and safeguard the American public,” said Henry DeBlock III, Atlanta port director.

A person wanted by law enforcement officials in White Plains, New York for DUI, a person wanted for larceny charges in McKinney, Texas, and a traveller arrested for a terrorist threat in Union City, Georgia, who was attempting to board a foreign flight to Mexico was among those recently arrested by CBP officers at ATL.

Those with outstanding warrants were caught by CBP officials as they attempted to enter or leave the United States, and they were turned over to local authorities for further prosecution.

Those wanted for computer theft, fraud, firearm charges, violent violence, IRS charges, and money laundering have all been apprehended by CBP police so far.

Officers cross-reference active arrest warrants with the manifests of outgoing and incoming passengers using the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.

Agents will hold the person before boarding or after disembarking from their flight and turn them over to local authorities if CBP officers confirm an exact match with the NCIC database.

The NCIC is a centralised automated database that allows law enforcement organisations to share information such as outstanding warrants.
