Netflix has given the green light for the production of Sweet Magnolias season three. And this is exactly what we need to hear in light of the fact that we were left on a cliffhanger at the conclusion.
After the news that the show would be returning was announced, executive producer Dan Paulson released a statement in which he said, “We’re happy to be commencing on our third season for Netflix, and we’re looking forward to returning to Serenity.”
The cast also contributed to the hype on social media. JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley all shared the news on their respective Instagram accounts, which contributed to the buzz.
If you are completely up to date with Sweet Magnolias, then you are aware that Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen each have some significant choices to make, and whatever it is that they decide to do will presumably have an effect on the community of Serenity as a whole.
They were able to work out their issues thanks to the limitless supply of margaritas that was available to them.
Unquestionably, things have become even more challenging for the three people, who are doing the best they can to find their way through the minefield that is love and life in their sleepy hamlet with white picket fences.
But following a cliffhanger that could have significant ramifications for all of them, let’s have a drink and talk about what to look forward to in the next season.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Storyline
JoAnna Garcia Swisher thinks that the next season will pick up right where the second season left off. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she said that it’s likely to start in the spring “close to where we left off, because I don’t think you can come back months later and ask, “What happened to Helen?” and “Is Justin in jail?” Why not go big or stay small?”
If she’s right, and we think she is, then season 3 will answer all the big questions we have after the cliffhanger ending of season 2. Our first item: Will Helen accept Ryan’s proposal or continue to pursue Erik? Fans are already picking sides, but Heather Headley told TVLine that she thinks it could “go either way,” especially since she has worked with both men in the past.
But don’t think you’ll hear back right away: Sheryl Anderson, the showrunner and executive producer, told Entertainment Weekly, “I know what she’s going to say, but I wouldn’t guess that timeline.”
The other hard-to-understand couple on Serenity is Cal and Maddie. During the second season, we learned more about Cal’s (well, not quite) past anger problems and saw how they caused Maddie to pull away from him.
In the last episode of the season, Cal got arrested after getting into a fight at Sullivan’s. This was the moment when everything really came to a head.
Sheryl said in an interview with Glamour that the event made her think about two important questions: “How do you win someone’s trust? And if you break trust, is it possible to get it back?” If everything goes as planned, the next season will be a “chance to get into that.”
Don’t forget about Dana Sue, either. With Ronnie back on her side, things were looking up for her, but then Miss Frances died and left her a lot of money.
This seemed like good news until people started going after the Sullivans for reasons we didn’t understand. They even cut the tyres off of Dana Sue’s van. Who would do something like that? We don’t know yet, but it looks like we will soon.
Still, that’s not even half of it: So many other stories are just getting started, like Issac’s recent discovery about his birth parents and Ty’s future without baseball (which, maybe just maybe, includes Annie).
Sweet Magnolias Season 3 Trailer
We’ll have to wait a while for new footage, though, since there is no confirmed release date. Since filming has just begun, we have a while to wait.
Still, at least we know it’s coming!
In the case of Sweet Magnolias’s second season, there wasn’t even a trailer until two weeks before the show came out.
But if you come back, we’ll keep you as up-to-date as we can. Promise!

Let’s pull off the Band-Aid and immediately dig into Helen’s most agonising trial: Helen suffered a miscarriage just two episodes after sharing the news of her pregnancy with the other Magnolias. It was a calamitous series of circumstances that ultimately helped Helen determine what she wants from her life.
