PSG Has Been Crowned Ligue 1 Champions After a Draw Against Lens!

After a 1-1 tie with Lens on Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain secured the Ligue 1 title.

They were booed off at halftime after a stubborn Lens made things difficult for PSG’s star-studded squad, and it looked like they’d have to wait another week to clinch their success.

Lionel Messi, the club’s most illustrious treasure, scored in the 68th minute to secure his first trophy since coming from Barcelona last summer.

He received the ball 25 yards from goal, moved it to his justified foot, and swept a curling shot past Lens goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca with ease.

Lens equalized in the 87th minute, but a draw was enough for PSG to recover the title from Lille, who had been the surprise victors the previous season.

PSG has dominated the league in 2021-22, winning their 10th domestic title, and are 16 points ahead of second-placed Marseille with five games remaining.Psg

During their domestic campaign, they have only lost four league games and have scored 76 goals.

This is Pochettino’s first league triumph, with the 50-year-only old’s previous two management titles also coming with PSG. He won the Trophee des Champions shortly after being appointed in 2020, and he also won the Coupe de France the previous season.

PSG, on the other hand, has had a dismal season outside of Ligue 1.

They were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 after a second-leg collapse against Real Madrid, were eliminated from the Coupe de France on penalties by Nice at the same stage, and lost the Trophee des Champions against Lille.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was a candidate for the Manchester United manager’s job, but the Old Trafford club chose Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag instead.

Pochettino, who took over at PSG in January 2021 after Thomas Tuchel stepped down, signed a contract extension last summer that runs through June 2023.
