After a local tax preparer was suspected of repeatedly taking someone’s tax return, police launched an investigation.

On Tuesday around 6:30 p.m., police in Paris talked with a fraud victim.

According to Curtis Garrett of the Paris Police Department, the victim “indicated that they had utilized the same tax service for the last many years.” “The victim reported that they had checked with their tax preparer multiple times throughout the time and had been informed that the IRS had delayed their return for the previous year.”

The victim claimed that this year’s incident was similar to last year’s.

The victim contacted the IRS to inquire and was informed that their refunds for the previous two years had been forwarded to the preparer, according to Garrett.

PPD has not yet identified the involved tax preparer since the instances are still being investigated.
