Cole Sprouse shared with GQ that he and the rest of the cast of Riverdale were already prepared to “wrap it up with a bow” prior to the recent cancellation of the show Riverdale. However, given that Riverdale is what it is, you should not anticipate a standard conclusion to the seventh and final season.
The unexpected transition to the supernatural at the end of the sixth season of the program set up another, even bigger twist by sending everyone back in time to a more mundane and straightforward era. Indeed, Riverdale’s dark interpretation of the source material has now completed its journey by concluding on a nostalgic note that perfectly captures the 1950s atmosphere for which this franchise is most known.
Back in May of 2022, the president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, expressed his opinion that now would be the ideal time to bring the show to a close:
“A fitting conclusion should be provided for television series that has been on the air for a significant amount of time, in my opinion. We had a lengthy talk with Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] the day before, and he is ecstatic about this news. We will treat the show in the manner that it deserves… We want to ensure that it is sent in the correct direction.
I believe that they, too, believed that seven years is an appropriate amount of time. Being a fan myself, I have the desire to act in a manner that is beneficial to the show.”
But could you please explain that in more detail? And does this truly mark the end of Riverdale, or will it one day emerge from the ashes like a (Cheryl-shaped) Phoenix?

Riverdale Season 7 Storyline
During the aforementioned conversation with Decider, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that despite the fact that most of the characters have largely forgotten what transpired with Percival, the supernatural events of season six will still have a significant impact on the finale:
“It is not a radical departure from what has come before. Jughead recalls all that has occurred. I believe that our characters, whether conscious or not, have an emotional recollection of their experiences.”
“Thus again, and I attempted to convey this following the Rivervale incident, Rivervale is in continuity. It is not the case that five episodes exist outside of continuity. And I believe that everyone recognized that it was so committed to Riverdale and to season six.
Therefore, season seven is not the beginning of a new continuity in my opinion. There is still continuity.” When asked about the future of fan-favorite pairings such as Barchie, Choni, and Jabitha, Roberto intimated that change is on the horizon in the wake of the shocking development:
“How do I phrase this? Several of the couples featured in the finale will go on. Some will transform into new things, and there will also be… There will undoubtedly be new pairings.”
This is especially true for LGBTQ characters like Kevin and Toni, who must now navigate their sexuality in a somewhat less permissive environment.
“The 1950s will be a vastly different time period. They are to be concealed. They will need to develop various means to communicate with one another. How do our characters, whom we’ve gotten to know in the near-present, cope with Euphoria issues in the 1950s, or Euphoria realities, is actually one of the most fascinating aspects of the story for us.”
Do not anticipate this major plot twist to be resolved in a single episode.
“We haven’t ironed it out,” said Roberto. “On the last day of filming, I had a conversation with Lili Reinhart, who said, “Oh, it’s so fantastic to be in the 1950s!” And I’m like, ‘Yes, settle in.’ And she asked, “How long will we be here?” And I respond, “Yes, we’ll be here for a while.” Consequently, it will not be a one-and-done, that is certain.”
Riverdale Season 7 Trailer
We are unable to offer you any fresh footage or go forward in time without Tabitha’s powers, which allow her to travel across time. Expect to see the teaser here on Digital Spy first whenever it finally does arrive, which will presumably be around the month of October 2022.
Riverdale Season 7 Release Date
The premiere date of Riverdale’s fourth and final season has not been announced by The CW; nevertheless, it does not need to be a sorceress or even an FBI agent to deduce when new episodes will most likely be broadcast.
Every season of Riverdale has begun sometime in the months of October or November, with the exception of the first season and the fifth season, which were interrupted due to the pandemic.
It is therefore reasonable to infer that the conclusion of the story will begin in either October or November of 2022.
