After showing a teaser at CinemaCon in April, director Damien Chazelle showed the first trailer for Babylon at TIFF.

This holiday season, you will be able to see Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt cause trouble in “Babylon” even earlier.

“Babylon,” an old Hollywood epic directed by Damien Chazelle, is no longer getting a limited release. Instead, it will get a wide release on December 23.

“Babylon” was supposed to come out in limited theatres on December 25 and then in more theatres on January 6, 2023. Instead, the movie will come out on December 23 in more than 3,000 theatres across the country.

Robbie and Pitt worked together on “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” In Chazelle’s star-studded take on the dangers of fame and the slow tide of change in the movie business, Robbie and Pitt are back together.

Set in a time when silent movies were being replaced by talkies, Robbie plays Nellie LaRoy, an aspiring actress who is a mix of early “talkies” stars Clara Bow, Jeanne Eagels, John Crawford, and Alma Rubens. Nellie wants to be famous, and she meets Jack Conrad (Pitt), an old movie star who was modeled after John Gilbert, Clark Gable, and Douglas Fairbanks.

Samara Weaving, Li Jun Li, Katherine Waterston, Olivia Wilde, Spike Jonze, Jean Smart, Lukas Haas, Jovan Adepo, Tobey Maguire, Diego Calva, and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea are also part of the ensemble cast. Studio executive Irving Thalberg is the only real person in the historical fiction movie. Max Minghella plays him.

Marc Platt and Matthew Plouffe are in charge of making the movie, which is written and directed by Chazelle. Michael Bugg, actor Tobey Maguire, Wyck Godfrey, Helen Estabrook, and Adam Siegel are among the show’s executive producers.

Chazelle has also said that it has taken 15 years to make the “big, epic, many-character movie.” After making “First Man” in 2018, he finally wrote the screenplay and asked Oscar-winning cinematographer Linus Sandgren and composer Justin Hurwitz to join.

Chazelle said at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival that “Babylon” had the largest cast and the most roles he had ever played. “It took a very, very long time to make the molds. It’s mostly made up, and most of the characters are made up, but they are based on real people.

When I was writing them, a lot of these real-life events gave me ideas, but when it came time to cast, I was just looking for people who would surprise me. That was the guiding principle: to destroy any ideas people had about that time and those people and to find actors who could capture the spirit of that time and those people.

He also said, “It was the first time I did a real ensemble movie with a wide view. I was trying to look at books and movies like “La Dolce Vita” by Fellini, “Nashville” by Altman, and the “Godfather” movies. With just a few characters, these old-school epics show how a whole society grows and changes so that by the end of the movie, you feel like you’re in a completely different place.
