What To Know Before First Day Of Tax Season

IRS-Tax-SSN-FreeTaxUSA-Finance-Money-US News
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has teamed with ID.me, an IRS-trusted provider of identity verification technology, to enable identity verification for IRS applications.

Monday marks the beginning of tax filing season, and experts say this week is a good time to organize your documents.

On the first day of tax season, the Internal Revenue Service will begin taking and processing returns for the year 2022.

South Texans are being urged by IRS officials to ensure that their records are accurate. They stated that if your employer’s records are wrong, it could result in a lower tax return.

If you examine them from your employer and they do not match the information on your most recent paycheck stub, contact your employer. Do not submit this inaccurate information. Michael Devine, a representative for the Internal Revenue Service, stated that the agency is unable to solve the problem.

Several tax benefits, particularly child tax credits, will revert to their pre-pandemic levels. People who received $3,600 per dependent in 2021 will receive $2,000 per dependent in 2022.

There have been several modifications to the tax legislation. Most of them were tied to COVID-19 and have since disappeared, Devine added. Devine predicts that tax season will see an upsurge in tax fraud and fraud attempts.

According to the IRS, more than 90 percent of data theft begins with phishing emails. Devine stated that the earlier you file, the less likely you are to become a victim of fraud.

If someone has stolen your identity, they may have submitted a claim before you. If your return is accepted, it implies that no one submitted it before you. If not, you are immediately alerted that you need to call the IRS or a tax professional, as Devine explained.

Online, you can find free e-filing software such as TurboTax, FreeTaxUSA, and H&R Block free versions. The submission date is Tuesday, April 18.
