Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven on Stranger Things, has spoken out about the “gross” sexualization she has faced throughout her career.
The performer, who turned 18 recently, talked about how she senses “a gap between how individuals act and how the press and social media react to me coming of age.”
On an episode of The Guilty Feminist podcast, she remarked, “I struggle with the same things any 18-year-old deals with, navigating being an adult and having relationships and friendships, and it’s all of those things.”
“Trying to fit in and be accepted is a lot, and you’re trying to [know] yourself at the same time.” The only difference is that I’m doing it in front of the camera.”
Brown went on to remark that the public’s sexualization of her was “overwhelming.” “I’ve definitely been dealing with that more in the last couple of weeks of turning 18,” she continued. [I’m] noticing a distinction between how people respond and how the press and social media react to my coming of age.”
The performer believes her story is “a good reflection of what’s going on in the world and how young girls are sexualized,”. I’ve been coping with it — but I’ve been dealing with it for a long time.”
Meanwhile, while discussing her role in Godzilla Vs. Kong, the actor recently admitted that she had never seen a Marvel or Harry Potter film.
