Eclipse Across America: Hotels, Events, and Souvenirs Drive Tourism Boom

With the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th, businesses across North America are gearing up for the celestial spectacle in creative and exciting ways.

From eclipse-themed beverages to special events, the anticipation is palpable.

Businesses Unveil Stellar Products and Promotions

As the eclipse approaches, a myriad of businesses are rolling out special products and promotions to capitalize on the event. Eclipse-themed beer, jewelry, ornaments, and even doughnuts with buttercream frosting depicting the sun’s disappearing act are just some of the offerings available to consumers.

Hotels, resorts, and airlines are also getting in on the action, offering special packages and eclipse-viewing flights to attract visitors along the prime path of the eclipse. Cities, museums, and parks are hosting watch parties, catering to both tourists and residents eager to witness the phenomenon.

According to Jie Zhang, a marketing professor at the University of Maryland’s business school, the eclipse frenzy coincides with a surge in consumer spending on new experiences, making it a lucrative opportunity for businesses.

Small businesses within the path of totality are particularly active, offering a diverse range of creative merchandise, from earrings to baby onesies to games. Some businesses have been preparing for the event for years, anticipating the influx of crowds.

Market Garden Brewery in Cleveland, for example, brewed a special hazy IPA called “The Totality” in honor of the eclipse, partnering with a local grocer for a canned collaboration. Other businesses, like Big Cuppa coffee shop in Morrilton, Arkansas, have created eclipse-themed menus to welcome customers.
